History - Before there was "Hollywood", there was Santa Barbara.  That's right...the movie production companies that eventually relocated to Los Angeles, first made their home in Santa Barbara.  Many associated with the industry, such as a young shoemaker for the stars named Salvatore Ferragamo, followed.  Nevertheless, Santa Barbara's allure could not be denied, as this was where they all came back to play...and, some to live again.  And, nobody more than Charlie Chaplin, who immediately fell in love with the area.  So much so, that he, along with a small group of investors, built the Montecito Inn as an upscale getaway, as well as to be a perfect stopping point for Mr. Chaplin and his friends between Los Angeles and the occasional festivities at Mr. William Randolph Hearst's new castle by the sea.  Soon after the Montecito Inn opened its doors in February, 1928, it became the "toast of the coast" between Los Angeles and San Francisco.  Years later, in 1943, Mr. Chaplin returned to Montecito to marry the one true love of his life, Oona O'Neill.  Since then, many things have come and gone, but the popularity of the Inn has remained.  It is a special place, from a special time...daring, elegant, sophisticated, romantic...the stuff of legends.  And, now, the legend is yours...
